PHOTOGRAPHY I
I have never been a visually creative person. I was the girl in high school who doubled up on choir and band to avoid art classes because I did not see any artistic potential in myself in areas such as drawing, painting, photography, or design. I even went almost my entire collegiate career without taking an art class (besides art history!), but now that I have taken Photo I, I am so glad I did not miss out on this opportunity. Although my pictures are only in infancy compared to where I'd like them to be, I can see definite improvement in not only my technical photography skills dealing with exposure and proper camera setting, but also my artistic expression. It took me this term to realize what subject matter it was that truly appealed to me; nature, and even then, I surprised myself by choosing photos that contradicted this for my final critique. I think this just proves that art is not a stationary field, but rather one always shifting and shaping itself depending on artist mood, place in life, etc. I find myself wanting to explore different realms of photography than I have this term, a concept that has taken me a while to warm up to because just as before this term I believed I could not be capable of producing quality art, I did not think I was capable of dabbling in different areas of photography that I am intrigued by such as portraiture or wildlife photography. I simply thought it would be too hard. But seeing my photographs placed on canvas and presented after this introductory course, I know that with time and practice, I could delve into these fields and have success if I wanted to. There is no limit to what one can do with their art because if I’ve learned anything from this class, it is that there is no ultimate critique of a photo or a painting or any work of art- beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. That is why I have chosen to present my work here without any photo retouching besides patching of dust marks on my dark room photography and resizing. I would like my photos to speak for themselves because although I know that they are far from perfect ~ such is life. Thank you for visiting my photography website!
Fact: In my everyday life, I am a senior biology student
with dreams of pursuing a career in Physical Therapy.
I've been in love with the medical field since I can remember
so when I first entered this course, I was devising ways to
relate it to my passions. Feel free to visit this page to learn
a little about the history of medical photography from me!
